Digital Intervention of Nostalgic Memories

Introduction

A lot have been stumbled upon with the knowledge or without it where an infinite number of life has been sacrificed because of an infinitesimally sized virus. The aftermath of this pandemic is so petrified and terror-striking that an escape from the situation is void. This project of mine is an attempt to live along the feeling in a way where one cannot overcome from the shock of the real world, but can some extent live in a state of virtual world where the protagonist tries to relive his past by spending time in this virtual world with his closed ones.

In the era of this digital contemporary world where we have come across the medium of technological intervention, one is so much involved in this technology that the real world is antiquated. Platforms such as social media, television, newspaper, films, where one starts involving away from reality, digital games is one where a person enters into a virtual world. A virtual space where one becomes a protagonist in order to complete a virtual mission or assignment contrary to which one doesn’t achieve anything tangible stuff in the physical world.

Objective

The objective behind this project is to start looking at myself in this virtual world so-called digital games. Also, I am interested in the dynamics and interaction that will be taking place with me and the digital world. I am also interested in the history of games and how and what role they have played in society. The idea is also to bring together the digital games related to the game. Unlike the real world in the virtual world one is so tough and mighty that one is having the advantage of reliving precious moments.

What ?

A game designed in an attempt to bridge the gap between the shock received due to pandemic by reliving the past through a virtual world.

Why ?

To minimize the trauma that one has encountered due to this pandemic through by reliving the moments through a virtual world.

How ?

Using the medium of gamification and taking into consideration all the stakeholders who have been impacted by pandemic.

The Challenge

Nothing in this world can replace the love and affection that one has for someone's family. Especially when one is at an distance where there is no chance of coming back. When dealing with such emotions there is a chance of depressions that can flood into someone's heart and result could be devastating. To minimize the trauma that a person goes through and also tries to visualize as if the persons closed ones are still available at any instant.

How can we design a space where one gets involved in that space to overcome a certain trauma ?

The pandemic has triggered an array of emotional, physical, and economic issues but in the midst of this crisis, nations have shared and learned from each other’s experiences.

Proposal

The process of making this game to engage oneself into this game includes a certain steps. Starting from the making of 3d model to final product I have underwent number of challenges and tried to learn from experiencing stuffs.

Image Making

The process starts with making of multiple images of the model. Photographs of model are taken in 360 degree view so as to have all the possible sides of the model. In this case where I was the protagonist of the game I photographed my self in all 360 degree view.

Photogrammetry

This step includes the importing of the made images in to Photogrammetry software like Meshroom. The number of images was imported to the software and was rendered to create unfinished 3D model.

Retouch

After the unrefined model was rendered in Meshroom software the model was imported into Blender to remove and retouch the 3D model with help of sculpting.

Animate

Further the model was exported from blended in FBX format and the texture of the model was exported in mtl format. These files were then animated using Mixamo to create the animating model and depending upon the requirement of model the specific animated model like walking, raising hand etc. was then used.

Coding

The final stage where I had work on UNITY with the model and design the space for the game. The code was written in C# language in visual studio which was then embedded into unity to make the game functional.
